Knepp Estate Wedding Photographer – Matt & Laura

Knepp Estate Wedding Photographer

When Laura and Matt's enquiry landed in my inbox I made an audible gasp. Knepp Estate is a dream wedding venue. It's a proper back to nature venue, with a rewilding project meaning you're surrounded by wildlife. If it wouldn't have been kind of weird, I'd have stayed over, but I'm not going to impose myself on your wedding, promise.

Laura kicked off her day in a bell tent - any trip outside did require some careful concealment as she was right on site as everyone arrived. But, there's something so special about being able to hear the wedding beginning from just outside of the tent. Also, you know you've got a bride who's going to get stuck in when she's getting ready in a tent.

Embracing the weather for a Kneep Estate Wedding

The plan was an outdoor ceremony overlooking the lake. But, the weather was not playing ball, the wind was powerful and rain showers were coming and going. Before I arrived, the decision had been made to set up the ceremony area inside the reception tipi. But, as the rain cleared, it was all hands on deck, as the guests carried chairs and decorations outside, so that the couple could get the outdoor ceremony they dreamed of. It means some of the photos are a bit windswept, but, I know I for one would much rather an outdoor ceremony with some added deer guests. The celebrant-led ceremony was so personal, full of a lot of laughter and really included the important guests too.

The reception included a lot of lawn games...some of which blew into the water and had to be rescued. There's nothing like the added jeopardy of your entire match blowing away to add to the competitive spirit.

The party really got started when Matt and Laura’s friends’ band hit the stage. Dressed in custom wedding t-shirts, they rocked the tipi with a lively set. Just when everyone thought it couldn’t get better, the best man busted out a surprise sax solo, weaving through the crowd and bringing the house down.

It's a weird and pretty useless wedding photographer skill that you can read a group of people and anticipate how lively the dance floor will be. While I knew this lot would be dancers, they still blew me away with just how much energy was on the dance floor. Honestly, it's always kind of sad for me to leave as the party is still going, but I know people need some unobserved time to embarrass themselves on the dance floor.
