Hackney Town Hall Wedding Photographer

If you’re planning a Hackney Town Hall wedding, I’m here to tell you it’s iconic. How was this my first visit to this London town hall when I've been a wedding photographer for 13 years? Rebecca and Hamish's wedding had everything I love about London weddings - unique venues, relaxed vibes, and plenty of heartfelt moments. Starting with the grandeur of Hackney Town Hall and ending at the intimate Joyau in Forest Gate, it was casual, stylish and full of laughter.

The Wedding Ceremony at Hackney Town Hall

Hackney Town Hall is a dream for a wedding photographer. There's just nothing like a London town hall, all that marble, impressive staircases, huge windows and wood panelled rooms, make these ceremonies feel both grand and intimate. The couple kept things simple with minimal decor, allowing Hackney Town Hall to do the heavy lifting. The ceremony itself was intimate and full of laughter - exactly the way I like it.

After the ceremony, guests piled onto a classic red London bus for the journey to Joyau in Forest Gate. This is such a fun way to keep the energy alive between venues, with cans of cocktails aplenty. I ended up sitting with their friends who I photographed the year before and was delighted to see my work gracing both of their lock screens - the ultimate compliment.

Wedding Reception at Joyau Wine Bar

I was so excited about going to Joyau. It's a small wine bar, nestled in Forest Gate, in the railway arches. Think industrial but warm and so unique for a wedding. Instead of a traditional sit-down meal, the couple opted for a buffet that allowed everyone to pick at food as and when they wanted - and Hamish really cares about his food - so trust me it was good. This also allowed my favourite type of speeches - standing by the DJ booth, everyone gathered together, which selfishly makes for the best candid photos.

Speaking of, the couple wanted to keep posed photos to an absolute minimum, which I’m always happy to do. We snuck away for a few relaxed portraits on the streets around Joyau. A little insight into my thinking here - there really was no "obvious" photo spot here and I had to be really creative. We leant into the urban environment and just went for a walk around the streets, which actually turned out beautifully and really matched the vibe of the day.
