Ben & Jerry’s Sundae Festival 2011

On Sunday my boyfriend and I went to the Ben & Jerry's Sundae festival on Clapham Common. Part of me feels I should resent [my boyfriend] paying to witness a day of shameless advertising, but it was such a slick operation and such a master-piece of marketing, that I was rather impressed with the whole thing. And I got to see Maximo Park.

There was lots of free ice cream and little things to stumble upon, including the Vauxhall City Farm where I wondered if maybe I could pull off an amazing Alpaca haircut… Vauxhall City Farm at Sundae Festival 2011

Quite possibly the best bit of the day was happening upon these two, blasting out a string of awful Dad Rock and leaping around playing air guitar. Air Guitar at Sundae Festival 2011

We really only went to see Maximo Park and eat free ice cream, but, wanting to secure a space at the front we set ourselves up at the stage before Gary Numan's set. I know two Gary Numan songs, I can hardly be called a fan. But, we both really enjoyed his set, the way he just seemed to be enjoying it so much was contagious. Gary Numan at Sundae Festival 2011

When I first saw Maximo Park at Glastonbury in 2005 I spent the entire set grinning like an idiot, proclaiming, "oh I love this song," and falling head over heels with frontman Paul Smith. He came on in a suit and hat, leapt about with incredible agility and sang a lot of songs I love. I decided right there that I would marry him and every time I go to see them I'm reminded that I really do have a massive crush on Paul Smith and want to run off with him into the sunset. This set was no exception and this time I had the great pleasure of sorting through my photos for hours... Maximo Park at Sundae Festival 2011

I think I got a bit over-zealous with my camera, but, never mind. I thoroughly enjoyed it and intend to go back next year (and buy some of that new coconut-y ice cream I now can't remember the name of...).
