A lovely winter wedding for you today! Rachael and Marc were married at Offley Place in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. We had some fantastic British weather for this wedding, rain and wind, with some unexpected sunshine (that looked a lot more inviting than it actually was). Luckily, Offley Place has some beautiful light-filled rooms for group shots in case it’s wet outside, so we stayed inside for our group shots. Rachael, Marc and I braved the outside for some couple shots as the sun was low in the sky – my favourite time!

There were so many laughs at this wedding, it was wonderful to cover and be a part of Rachael and Marc’s big day! Including a great moment where a wasp tried to attack Rachael mid-ceremony and her bridesmaid leapt to action, wielding a bouquet as a weapon.

I’ve had the pleasure of covering quite a few weddings where magician Lee Smith at Walkabout Magic was in attendance, he’s an absolute joy to work with and I just love seeing everyone’s reactions to his magic; they definitely make for some great photos! I always get excited when a couple tell me they’re going to have sparklers at their weddings (even if there’s a little moment of fear when I consider heavy alcohol consumption and open flames). I clearly have a lot of the child-like excitement about sparklers and they make for gorgeous photos. Rachael and Marc were married the weekend after Bonfire Night, so it was particularly great to see some sparkler action here.

Marie and Liam were married at Mayfair Library, followed by a reception upstairs at The Lodge, East Dulwich Tavern in London. A route-master took us all to the pub, the plan was a lovely scenic route for all of their out of town guests to enjoy, but, London did not comply, with road closures, however, we still saw quite a lot and enjoyed a hair-raising twenty-point turn when the bus went down a road far too narrow to accommodate it.

The whole vibe of this wedding was very 40s/50s, it was very intimate with just family and close friends, it was very low key, personal and heartfelt…it felt a little like this is more what weddings would have been like for our parents/grandparents.

I’m going to gush about Marie’s dress for a moment – she made it herself! Yes, Marie made this super beautiful dress and it has sleeves! I love a wedding dress with sleeves – do you think when I get married Marie will make my dress too?! Marie also made their gorgeous wedding cake. Her and her bridesmaids put together their own bouquets and made one of the bridesmaid dresses. The evening music was played by one of Marie and Liam’s friends and it was just perfect – their first dance was a lovely acoustic version of More Than Words.

I like to think that I’m getting better at holding back the tears at weddings nowadays, but, Marie’s speech broke any resolve I might have had! I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place, Marie managed to perfectly convey just how much she loves Liam, talking about the butterflies she had when she used to get the bus to see him as a teenager and how she feels just the same now. Marie and Liam have the kind of relationship we can all aspire to and wish them all the happiness for the future.

Brace yourself for a gorgeous wedding at the amazing Devonshire Terrace in London!

The first thing you should probably know is that Gemma is a wedding photographer. I knew I was going to love Gemma and Gary instantly, not only did Gemma and I bond immediately over wedding photography (and how often we have to crop out Fire Exit signs…!), but, they brought their adorable dog along to the pub to meet me! With her expert wedding knowledge, Gemma included a plethora of wonderful details in the day. This included some beautiful acoustic music from Articulate Music wandering around the reception; and singing waiters serenading the guests at the end of the meal. Oh and a surprise choreographed bridal party first dance to Uptown Funk and bubbles instead of confetti. Gemma left a little surprise for Gary in the pub before their ceremony – a cardboard cut out of Stone Cold Steve Austin, with a little note around his neck informing Gary of a surprise inscription on the inside of his wedding ring.

This wedding was in one of the most amazing venues I’ve had the joy of working at – Devonshire Terrace in London. It is just stunning, you can see the Gherkin perfectly framed through the glass roof and this just gets even more special as the sun goes down. Then to top it all, Gemma and Gary covered the place in gorgeous decorations, including paper lanterns and lights from Stress Free Hire and beautiful flowers from Spinney Cottage Flowers.
